Continuing from my previous post, I initially only wanted a moisturizer but was persuaded by the Kiehl’s rep to purchase the sunscreen to avoid my acne scars (dark spots) getting even more visible if i do not use sunscreen.

I am personally not very fond of sunscreen, probably due to my past experience using the sunscreen recommended by Dr. Loke – AveneVery High Protection Lotion SPF 50+ that was just way too greasy and too heavy for my combination oily skin. I did not even finish the tube, I stopped using it after a while just because I hated putting it on every morning.

Back in Singapore, taking public transport everyday, undoubtedly anyone who is into skin care, would declare sunscreen as the most important skin care product to apply daily. When I was working in Singapore, I walk to the busstop every morning , walk to the office, going to nearby building for lunch at noon. I would say those are my daily sun exposure periods – quite minimal but nonetheless, my skin needs sun protection.

One of my main concerns after my acne cleared up (no more active zits popping up) was the acne scars, visible discoloration, prominent dark spots on my face. Apparently sun exposure contribute to the acne scars staying there instead of fading away.

Kiehl’s Ultra Light UV Defense SPF 50+++ 30 ml cost SGD$50+ or Rp.350.000,- in Indonesia.

Comparison 60ml & 30ml

Product claims:

“Our daily, ultra light formula intensely moisturizes the skin and utilizes a high level of sun filters Mexoryl SX and Mexoryl Xl to provide the skin with effective UVA and UVB broad-spectrum sunscreen protection. This moisturizing, oil-free lotion helps protect against the appearance of dark spots and wrinkles. Safe for sensitive skin.”

Texture: Ultra light. Creamy white texture, but blends in quickly as it is absorbed into the skin.

Smell: No particular smell, if so I’d say a very faint, pleasant medicinal smell.

Verdict: Leaves no white cast, but it gives an illuminating glow to your face. My friends always commented I look fairer when I put this on. So just make sure you apply this evenly and onto your neck as well to ensure adequate protection and to even out your skin tone.

I use this as my moisturizer in the morning and upon application, my skin looks dewy. It’s recommended to apply sunscreen 15-30 mins before sun exposure, so after my face care routine ended with the application of this sunscreen, I usually proceed to apply body lotion, do my hair, get dressed and out the door 🙂

I do get oily by the afternoon after lunch, so I will blot after I returned to the office.

Already bought the Jumbo 60ml after I finished my 30ml in 3 months time! (Bought 60ml at SGDS90+ – savings!)

Jumbo Size Limited Edition 60ml

I love putting this on daily and I have a peace of mind that I am protecting by skin from UV damage due to sun exposure.

So far I have not find anything better (texture wise) at a lower price so I’m staying loyal to this!

* I got my fellow oily skin cousin and aunt hooked on this 😉 This is our HG daily sunscreen!

Now that I am working in Jakarta, Indonesia, I drive to work for about an hour in between 8 – 10 am in the morning. I do not go out for lunch during mid day as I pack lunch from home and eat at the indoor lounge (or at my desk – sob sob). I go out from the office at 7pm when it’s already dark so my sun exposure is even LESS than when I was in Singapore. Still, I apply this sunscreen daily as my moisturizer in the morning. Why? Car’s glass windows filter out only one kind of radiation — UVB(burn) rays. But UVA(aging) rays, which penetrate deeper, can still get through. So yeah, better apply your sunscreen every morning no matter what =)
