Continuing my weekly treatment = exfoliation post to “remove dead skin cells in order to reveal softer smoother new skin”, this product is what I use to exfoliate after I finished my Simple Scrub.

Ginvera Green Tea Whitening Marvel Gel lasted me about 5-6 months with twice a week usage, I got it during a promo at Fair Price if I recall correctly. Usual Price SGD$16.90, I got it for SGD$13.90.

Ginvera Green Tea Whitening Marvel Gel

Ginvera Green Tea Whitening Marvel Gel

Product Claims!!!

Product Claims!!!

Product Claims:

  1. Rub away dead skin cells
  2. Rub away blackheads painlessly
  3. Refine pores
  4. Lighten spots
  5. Remove oil
  6. Prevent pimples
  7. Brighten complexion
  8. Smooth skin
  9. Whiten skin
  10. Aid absorption of skincare products

Texture: green gel. I use this to exfoliate my face, twice a week, at night. First, I wash my face with my Avene cleanser. Towel dry my face, then I apply four dots of this marvel gel on my face, forehead, 2 cheeks and chin. I spread the gel evenly all over my face then I start to rub gently in circular motions, upward and outward (my mantra!). Then the gel with the dead skin cells will form into bits like eraser dust. As the product dries, the bits will fell off. Then I just rinse my face. Finally, after this gel, I will proceed with a mask.

Smell: pleasant refreshing cool smell, not exactly green tea but not minty as well.

Verdict: After the ‘eraser dust’ bits fell off and I rinsed my face, WOW, my face felt so soft and smooth and my face is brighter.

I can definitely say this product is effective in its claims to 1. rub away dead skin cells, 7. brighten complexion, 8. smooth skin and 10. aid absorption of skincare products.

I do not use this gel for the sole purpose of blackhead removal thus I cannot testify on the effectiveness of claim 2. rub away blackheads.

As for the claims of 3. refine pores, 4. lighten spots, 5. remove oil, 6. prevent pimples and 9. whiten skin, I believe these are long term effects that comes as regular exfoliation benefits.

Overall, I like this “peeling” exfoliation as much as I like “grainy scrub” exfoliation. I would alternate between the two depending my mood =)

Until my next review!

In my current skin care journey to strive for even skin tone dan minimize the appearance and visibility of my acne scars, I’m constantly on the lookout for skin care products specifically formulated for whitening / brightening purposes.

After trying out Naruko Raw Job’s Tears previously, which I find a tad too gentle (hence the not so obvious effects), I was eager to try the Apple Seed & Tranexamic Acid specifically formulated to tackle dark spots.

Product Claims:

“Precise brightening with anti-aging and repairing properties. 3% Transexamic Acid (TA) the highest percentage of concentrated TA for the most effective brightening (Approved by Taiwan FDA)”

Normally I stay far far away from anti aging products as I tend to break out from them, as anti-aging products are usually formulated for mature, dry skin – hence will be too heavy for my combi-oily acne prone skin.

But this line is recommeded for usage as whitening care for those with oily & acne-prone skin types according to Naruko’s skin type classification. Plus, it seems that this line is ‘stronger’ in whitening / brightening so I decided to purchase this line (which is only available online, not retailing at Watson’s)

I bought 3 items from the line: toner, milky lotion and serum.

Left-Right: Apple Seed & T-Acid Essence (Toner), Milky Lotion, Serum

1. First the essence (toner).

Texture: runny like water.

Smell: fruity citrusy, much stronger scent than the Raw Job’s Tears but tolerable.

Verdict: LOVE! I pat this with my fingertips instead of using cotton pad. Lasted me 4-5months. Leaves my skin matte yet glowing and very soft to touch. My cheeks felt a bit tight upon application but I like it as it is formulated for acne skin so I expect this to be lightweight and sebum-controlling instead of intensely hydrating / mositurizing. Would repurchase!

2. Second, the milky lotion.

Texture: white liquid that is thicker than water, that’s the best way I can describe it.

Smell: citrusy smell but lighter than the toner.

Verdict: I like applying this after the essence (toner) as it hydrates the skin. Sometimes when I felt that my skin is oilier than usual, I skip my serum & moisturizer, I only applied the toner and this milky lotion (and sunscreen in the morning) and my face looks hydrated for the whole day.

However this is an extra step that I felt a bit unneccessary. Also this does not interact well with my moisturizer (both gel and cream) as I find white skin flakes like eraser bits fell off my skin as I rub / massage in my moisturizer. Maybe this milky lotion exfoliates or just does not penetrate well into the skin hence it is very unlikely that I would repurchase this item.

3. Finally, the serum.

Texture: white & creamy but sinks right into the skin, hydrates very well yet I felt that it is lightweight on my skin.

Smell: like the milky lotion.

Verdict: LOVE! I have finished my first bottle in about 2 months with day & night usage, my second bottle in 3 and a 1/2 months using it only at night. Takes more time to sink into the skin than the Raw Job’s Tears Serum but I prefer this especially at night. I also use less amount of the Apple Seed & T-Acid Serum than the RJT Serum as this is creamier and maybe also because the milky lotion provides sufficient hydration before I apply the serum.

Overall:

After using the line until I’m almost finished with the items (I’ve almost used up the toner and milky lotion and on my second bottle of the serum), I can attest that the products of Naruko’s Apple Seed & T-Acid line are effective in brightening my skin, but most importantly I did not break out from using the products.

In addition to my fondness in applying the toner and serum daily – (lightweight hydration perfect in humid tropics!), I’ve noticed that my old acne scars seems to be less and less visible as time goes by. The scars are not completely gone, but have faded from brown spots to pinkish spots – thus less noticeable.

On the rare occasions that I do have a few tiny zits (lack of sleep or too much stress), the newly formed acne scars are not permanent, they are hardly noticeable in 1-2weeks, whereas pre my whitening/brightening regimen, would take months to fade away.

I used the Apple Seed & T-Acid Toner, Milky Lotion and Serum in conjunction to my current skincare: Avene Cleanance Gel (cleanser, day & night), B.Liv “Off With Those Heads” Gel (only applied on my nose day & night), Kiehl’s Ultra Facial Oil Free Cream Gel (day moisturizer), Kiehl’s Derm Solutions Ultra Light Daily UV Defense (suncreen in the morning) and Naruko Raw Job’s Tears Brightening Cream (night moisturizer).

Morning Skin Care: after cleansing – toner, milky lotion, eye cream, serum, nose gel, gel moisturizer / sunscreen

Night Skin Care: after cleansing – toner, milky lotion, night eye gelly, serum, nose gel, cream moisturizer

In Conclusion:

However, now that I am back in my hometown (Jakarta, Indonesia) where purchasing the toner & serum is proven a bit difficult (only available online in Singapore), unfortunately once I have finished the line, I would have to find an alternative due to the lack of accessibility.

BUT if I were staying in Singapore, I would definitely keep on repurchasing the Apple Seed & T-Acid Essence (Toner) and Serum primarily for the following reasons: major points for effectiveness of the products and affordability (budget wise)!

Until my next review!

When I initially started to take the plunge to really get into skincare, one of my main concerns is to minimize the appearance of my acne scars, hence I am always looking for products that are formulated for whitening / brightening / even-skin tone purposes.

After researching about skin care online via forums (MakeUpAlley, Cozycot & Flowerpod), beauty blogs I follow, and youtube rave reviews, I decided to look into Naruko, an affordable high-quality skincare (which suits my budget).

Naruko is sold exclusively at Watson’s in Singapore and they also operate an online store at their website. Naruko is affordable skin care developed by Niu-Er, the well known dermatologist from Taiwan.

After viewing the skin type classification: Oily & Acne & Sensitive Skin, I decided to purchase items from Naruko Raw Job’s Tears line formulated for sensitive skin for whitening purposes.

Product Claims:

“Moisturize, repair and revitalize the skin. Prevent fine lines and repair minor scarring. Gets rid of melanin formation, fades dark spots, and brightens up the skin.”

I bought 3 items from the line:

The ingredients are full of extracts (I’ve converted the boxes into stationary holders – plus point for environmentally-friendly packaging :).

Natural ingredients hence shelf life of only 2 years (instead of the usual 3 years) and only good for 6M (months) after opening.

The products are gentle, does not cause me to break out and pretty lightweight on my skin. Especially in warm humid tropical Singapore, suitable for my combi oily acne prone skin.

Here’s the review of each item.

Toner & Serum

1. First, the toner.

Texture: Runny like water.

Smell: Pleasant faint smell like barley drink.

Verdict: Lightweight, hydrating toner to prep my skin before I apply serum & moisturizer. I used this day and night. I apply with cotton pad. Lasted 4-5months.

2. Second, the serum.

Texture: Slightly thicker than the toner but still runny like water. I used 4 pumps for my whole face (forehead, left & right cheeks, chin).

Smell: same like the toner.

Verdict: Lightweight serum that sinks right into the skin. Spread and pat gently into the skin. I used this day and night. Used up in less than 2 months.

3. Third, the cream.

Cream

Texture: White in color, not too thick, not too creamy, I really like the consistency.

Smell: Like a barley drink.

Verdict: Lightweight cream moisturizer that is easy to blend. Leaves the skin dewy but not oily. Not greasy, but left the skin moisturized. I only use this at night as my night cream. Lasted 5 months.

Overall:

Very lightweight. Hydrates my skin well although I don’t really see any whitening effects but I wake up with bright glowing skin every morning, supple & moist 🙂

In Conclusion:

Since this line is formulated for sensitive oily skin for whitening purposes, I believe that the products are a tad too gentle thus I did not witness the WOW whitening effects that I expect. I would categorize this line as a general maintenance brightening skin care that is gentle and a good starting point for skincare beginner as the products are affordable and easily available.

After I have finished this line, I ordered the Apple Seed & Transexamic Acid line which is formulated for acne prone skin to tackle dark spots. This particular line is only available online, the reason why I did not purchase this in the first place.

Until my next review!
